Greetings to all IGDA actives!
Summer is once again here and our annual IGDA Turku summer picnic hasn't taken place yet! As per usual lets gather at the Kupittaa Park as the tradition has been; right by the Moose statue on Tuesday July 14th. If the weather allows feel free to start earlier, but the outdoor games will begin around 17:30. If mother nature deems otherwise and it's not pleasant to be outside we can gather at The Hive with our quilts and snacks to have our picnic inside.
Casual meetup, outdoor games (Croquet, Mölkky, and Pétanque etc.), hanging out with the best people while enjoying a beverage or two among our snack filled baskets; Sounds like a perfect picnic!

This time, we dive into Odysseus – First Light, an ambitious Finnish sci-fi larp project by Ellarion Tales.
24.3.2026 at Saaristobaari (Club side)
18.00 Doors open
18.30 Program Starts
Odysseus is a large-scale Finnish sci-fi larp, originally run in 2019 and remastered in 2024. Set aboard a fully immersive spaceship environment, it combines live-action roleplay, worldbuilding, and character-driven storytelling in a story of survival, hope, and sacrifice.
During the evening, Antti Kumpulainen (Production, Narrative Design, Logistics) will open up what makes Odysseus such a unique production, how a large-scale larp of this kind is created, and what the next chapter of the project looks like. From design and storytelling to production scale, logistics, and community-building, the session offers a fascinating look into one of Finland’s most ambitious immersive game projects.
We will also hear about the practical realities of running a project like this: funding, people, spaces, construction, lessons learned from past events, and how player characters and choices can lead to very different experiences within the same larp.
The talk will also touch on the project’s ongoing crowdfunding campaign and ways to get involved.
