Leadership Day by IGDA Finland

There are no dedicated games leadership conferences in Europe... so we decided to make one! Leadership Day by IGDA Finland, September 30th, 2019 in Helsinki, is an international event about how we build companies, teams and working cultures to build better games.

#cultureofsharing

Games companies, their inner workings and cultures are some of the least documented aspects of game development. Yet we and our work are all defined by these choices every single day. Join us in learning and challenging the cutting edge of leadership in games from some of the brightest minds in the industry!

Like all things IGDA Finland, the conference is non-profit and made possible by our volunteers and partners.

Less, but better

This one day event is designed around a thought provoking speaker track and ample room for networking with industry peers. We will be organising an IGDA Mentorship Cafe to help you grow your professional network and to finish it all off we’ll be throwing an evening party right next to the venue.

In cooperation with Women in Games Finland, there will be free daycare for children of conference attendees on-site, sponsored by Secret Exit Ltd.

Callum Godfrey

Wargaming Helsinki

Closing in on the 20 year milestone, I’ve been in the industry for long enough to know that there is nowhere I’d rather be. During that time I have been lucky enough to experience first hand the working practices and cultures of over 30 different games companies seeing what works and what doesn’t and creating a toolkit of different skills and solutions that can be used in an industry where it’ll never be ‘one size fits all’.

The biggest thing I have learned over this time is that to make great games you not only need great people but also a great culture to motivate them and inspire them and how even with the best of intentions a good culture can turn toxic. Building great teams takes time, making changes is costly and often controversial, changing habits is painful… but all of these things can and should be at the heart of a well run team.
