IGDA Game Art SIG Feedback Night

IGDA Game Art Sig invites you to take part in an Art Feedback Night! On the 27th of April, industry gurus will gather to share their knowledge and expertise. Artists, game developers, professionals, or students, no matter what your background is, if games and game art are your passion, we are more than welcome to invite you to take part in this event!

The event will start on Twitch at 18.00 (EEST) with a lecture by Chris Solarski (IGDA Switzerland) Traditional Craft and UX: Widening the Aesthetic Scope of Games Through Drawing. During the lecture will be introduced aspects as the fundamentals of shape language and structural composition with historical and contemporary transmedia examples demonstrating the importance of traditional drawing on game design and UX—with the aim of exploring new aesthetic possibilities for interactive art.

At 18.30 (EEST) we will have a round table feedback session, where participants with submitted work can receive feedback from awesome mentors. Mentors will share their opinion on submitted works and give advice on how to improve them! If you would like to receive feedback on your work, please fill in this form: https://forms.gle/v6xUVDZKeE2JNufH9

After the feedback session, the event will continue on Discord, where each mentor will have their own channel and you will be able to join and discuss additional questions or catch fruitful advice from 19.00 till 19.30 (EEST).

Among our mentors will be:

Carolin Piotrowski / Business College Helsinki
Hi all, I'm Caro and you may use she/her and they/them. I'm a 2D artist/ Illustrator/ game dev- and enthusiast with a teaching degree, ergo I aim to not just criticize but to guide. For me the workflow is just as important as the end result, and I would love to hear about your process- and if there is anything you feel stuck with or we could improve upon. If this sounds like something you could benefit from on top of the classical feedback about color and composition, hop on along and give me a nudge. Or just pop by and blow my mind with your awesomeness!

Chris Solarski / IGDA Switzerland
Chris Solarski started work in video games at Sony Computer Entertainment’s London Studio as a character and environment artist before making a career-defining detour into figurative oil painting. Chris has authored two other books on game art and storytelling in games that are endorsed by the likes of Assassin’s Creed founding member Stéphane Assadourian, and Cyberpunk 2077 level designer Max Pears. Chris’ work has been described as gaming’s equivalent to Robert McKee’s screenwriting classic, Story, and compared to Joseph Campbell’s universal storytelling structure.

Ivan Lugovoy / Rovio
Visual developer, a senior game artist at Rovio, founder of the Theme Park an educational event in Finland. Fan of props concepting and visual storytelling.

Sergei Panin / Remedy
From engineer to 3D artist. My main focus is environment art. I have worked on different projects from mobile games to AAA games and then moved to Remedy to work on the ''Crossfire'' game. A few years ago I have started my own Discord community for environment artists from CIS and then step by step it grew into an online class about environment art in collaboration with Smirnov School. I am also doing art streams for almost 3 years now and all this experience from my community helped me to become a good mentor for a lot of cool artists.

The event will take place on IGDA Finland Twitch channel and IGDA Finland Discord server.
