Empowering the Next Generation of African Game Developers

GameUp Africa is a pan-African creative industry training program dedicated to discovering, training, and empowering the next generation of game development talent across the continent.

As the largest and most impactful game development training initiative in Africa, GameUp Africa combines a comprehensive curriculum with expert mentorship to equip aspiring creators with the skills, confidence, and connections they need to thrive in the global games industry.

Since launching in 2021, GameUp Africa has trained thousands of participants, produced over a hundred original games, and supported hundreds of graduates as theyโ€™ve gone on to work professionally in studios across Africa and beyond.

GameUp Africa is inviting experienced games industry professionals to volunteer their time and expertise as mentors. This is a unique opportunity to inspire and guide emerging developers, contribute to the growth of a thriving creative ecosystem, and help shape the future of the African games industry.

Mentor Requirements

To join the program, prospective mentors should:

  • Have 5+ years of professional experience in the games industry.

  • Bring core expertise in one or more of the following areas:
    2D/3D Game Art, Game Design, Audio & Sound Design, Gameplay Programming, Systems Design, Level Design, Product Management, Producing, Publishing, QA Testing, or Business Management.

  • Be available between November 3โ€“28, 2025, to participate virtually in the GameUp Africa Boot Camp.

  • Attend a short onboarding session before the mentorship begins.

  • Be willing to volunteer at least one hour per week for small-group office-hour mentoring sessions.

On 1โ€“2 August, you can spot IGDA Future / IGDA Finland at Assembly Summer 2025, where weโ€™ll be hosting an ARTtech seminar and hands-on workshops!

๐ŸŽค Seminars take place on the Genelec Stage, Saturday, August 2, from 12:00 to 15:00.
๐Ÿ› ๏ธ Workshops run both Friday and Saturday, August 1โ€“2, at IGDAโ€™s own table in the LAN hall.

During the event, make sure to swing by our Chat Corner to meet new industry friends and have casual conversations about anything games- and gaming-related.
